Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. An unsettled pattern has returned to portions of the Plains and towards the Gulf through Wednesday as a cold front starts to move in. Through tonight, scattered severe storms will be possible for the southern and central Plains, and the lower and middle Missouri Valley. The SPC has issued a MARGINAL/SLIGHT (level 1/2 out of 5) risk for severe storms.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/web1-1758547302154.png">The SPC has issued a tornado risk (green) and a significant hail risk (purple) for hailstones that could become 2"+ in diameter.This outlook extends into Tuesday, moving the slight risk for severe weather further South. The SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) focuses on the ArkLaTex, Red River Valley, and the southern extent of the Ozarks.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 143758-1758573743771.png">Storms may wait until tonight to really get fired up. At night, often, the low-level jet strengthens and that helps with thunderstorm support. That is likely overnight. Initially, we may see some discrete supercells (hail, tornado risk) before clustering into linear segments (damaging wind, flood risk) overnight and through Tuesday. The cold front keeps supporting these storms all the way to the Gulf Coast through Wednesday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/09-22 rsc-1758574148895.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The other growing concern is the threat of flooding. Severe Threat Ramps Up On the Southern Plains

We are now past the climatological peak of Atlantic Hurricane Season, but still have a ways to go for the season.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 142424-1758572931672.png"> Conditions are slowly becoming more active in the Atlantic as Gabrielle is churning in the Central Atlantic, while another tropical wave is moving off the coast of Western Africa, and another potential system is east of the Caribbean.<h1>Gabrielle</h1>Gabrielle is now the second MAJOR hurricane for the 2025 Atlantic season. Monday morning, Gabrielle strengthened to a Category 3 storm with sustained winds at 120 mph, but is now even stronger at Category 4 in strength with winds of 140 mph. It continues to look likely to pass east of Bermuda. People with interests in Bermuda should monitor this storm, as direct and indirect impacts are still possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 150716-1758575271387.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 150723-1758575296014.png">Gabrielle is expected to stay east of Bermuda; its wind field is likely to enhance the strong winds near the East Coast, churning up some large swells and strong currents. There is a high risk for rip currents from North Carolina through New Jersey.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/09-21 wave-1758509525484.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Tropical Waves</h1>#1. Central Tropical Atlantic - a broad area of low pressure in the central Atlantic could develop into something by the middle to latter part of this week, and a tropical depression could form. This has a high chance (in red) of developing into a tropical system.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 142142-1758572858160.png">#2. East of the Windward Islands - another tropical wave has a medium chance (orange) of formation but could bring gusty winds and showers to portions of the Leeward Islands on Tuesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 142352-1758572868261.png">Conditions will be hostile for this tropical wave for some time as Saharan Dust (dry air) is expected to continue to surge in this area. Better conditions are possible in the middle of the upcoming week as the wave moves toward the Caribbean.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/09-21 saharan dust-1758509624270.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Do not let your guard down! September is historically the peak of hurricane season, and ocean conditions remain favorable for additional development. However, the NHC urges residents along the Atlantic basin to monitor updates closely.<div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/W2bhqfX0B0A" start="0"></iframe></div>As always, preparedness is key. Whether or not this particular system develops into a named storm, it serves as a reminder that the Atlantic remains active and that the window for tropical threats is far from closed. The newest storm formed in the Eastern Pacific on Sunday. Tropical Storm Narda will continue to move out into the Pacific over the next few days.<h1>Tropical Storm Narda</h1>Narda will continue to move into favorable conditions for tropical development. The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center has Narda getting up to Category 2 strength.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 150847-1758575333036.png">Narda could produce flooding in Mexico over the next few days before it begins to turn more westerly. We'll pretend you were waiting on the OFFICIAL start of Fall to start slurping PSLs and chunkin 'punkins. Well now you can! The official equinox rings in a new season Monday at 2:19 PM ET. That is when the sun's rays are perpendicular to the equator. <h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-21 112531-1758475587856.png">Did you know? </h2>Most associate the equinox with equal day and night. Because sunlight gets refracted through the atmosphere, it will appear that the sun has risen when it really hasn't - that's the difference between an even split of day and night. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-21 111206-1758477826769.png"><h2>Why do we confuse everyone?</h2>If you're thinking "haven't we already done this?" Heavy showers and storms are slowly shifting east from the Midwest to the Northeast with a trough of low pressure that brought flooding rain to the Plains States for much of this week. Hail up to the size of quarters fell in MN, IL, and WI on Sunday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/web1-1758546919623.png">A SLIGHT risk (level 2 out of 5) for strong and severe storms is in place through tonight. Strong winds and large hail will be the primary threats to watch out for.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 145743-1758574674750.png">By tomorrow, the leftovers of today's storms will influence the forecast for the DMV. A MARGINAL risk (level 1 out of 5) has been issued for portions of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, etc.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 143940-1758574401661.png">Thunderstorm development is expected in the afternoon, according to the SPC. A few multicells are likely to expand in coverage throughout the day posing a large hail and damaging wind threat.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/09-22 rnc rne bams-1758574429195.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>With multiple rounds of rain and heavy downpours, rainfall totals could top 3-4 inches in some areas by Tuesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-22 145813-1758574698855.png">Isolated flash flooding will be possible through at least Wednesday. Storms Target the Ohio to Tennesse Valley

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Monsoon season can be enhanced by tropical systems from the Eastern Pacific, in fact, this usually occurs 1-2 times per season on average! For the second time this year, parts of the SW are seeing enhanced precipitation from the tropics, this time from what was Tropical Storm Mario.Mario's moisture led to some intense rainfall from California to New Mexico, producing several significant flash flood events and debris flows, including in Oak Glen. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-19 052003-1758281154453.png">The heaviest of the rain is behind Southern California, but more scattered storms are possible with monsoon moisture across the Lower Four Corners Saturday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/New Baron Video 3-1758337487119.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The rain was a welcome sight for many in California. Downtown LA hadn't seen rain since the beginning of JUNE! The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. CENTRAL U.S - A trough that came in from the Pacific, moved over the Rockies, and is now in the Plains has been responsible for severe storms across the High Plains all week. It's now pushing into the Midwest and Southern Plains, ushering a slow-moving cold front through the area.Related: <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/north-dakota-breaks-yearly-tornado-record">Dakota Tornado Record Falls Over the Weekend</a>The front is moving southward, bringing the threat of more hailstones and damaging winds. A level ONE risk (MARGINAL) is in effect for Thursday from Missouri to the Panhandle of Texas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/1-1758250684401.png">Scattered storms will continue along the front overnight into Friday, with a few more heavy downpours expected Friday afternoon especially across the Southern Plains. However behind the front, a few isolated storms could be severe in the Central Plains.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/New Baron Video 3-1758250851678.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/1-1758250943134.png">Rainfall rates could surpass 1-2" per hour in these slow moving thunderstorms, resulting in pockets of 2-4 inches of accumulation. This could lead to isolated flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/1-1758251167037.png">The WPC has issued excessive rainfall outlooks for this isolated flood chance for Thursday and Friday, between west Texas and northern Mississippi.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot 2025-09-18 053746-1758195612299.png">Always use caution with flood waters, as you never know how deep the water is.
